Today marks two whole months of Keto! I truly can’t believe I made it this far, but here I am, and I’m planning to continue for another month. Today I wanted to share my progress as well as how I handled Keto while on vacation.
I started Keto on April 16 and since then I’ve lost 14.2 pounds! My first month I lost 9.6 pounds, and my second month I lost 4.6 pounds. My workouts have consisted primarily of weights and resistance training in my living room while watching Netflix. I don’t go to a gym (I HATE gyms), I don’t do a lot of cardio that makes me miserable, I just do what I like… and that’s weights. When watching a favorite Netflix show, it goes by much faster and it’s a lot less miserable of a time.
Keto on Vacation
Keto was surprisingly easy on vacation, but it also presented its own challenges. What I found was that some restaurants in Panama City Beach act put out and will punish you for trading their precious carbs for a veggie or side salad. For example, we went to one restaurant that had side salad on the menu as a side item, and it was $2.29 for the salad. I wanted to order a grilled fish sandwich, bunless, and switch the fries for the salad. They were going to charge me $3 for the inconvenience… so even though the salad was less than $3, I was being punished for choosing healthy. Annoyed, I ended up ordering a large salad as a meal and just skipped what I truly wanted, which was the grilled fish off that sandwich. Other restaurants were the same so I had to either be creative or push back to defend my choices to eat healthier. A couple of places were extremely accommodating and I was grateful for those few. How anyone can be in 90 degrees and eat nothing but fried foods is beyond my understanding, so I have no idea why it was such an issue with some restaurants and why that’s all they want to serve down there, but I made it work.
Additionally, we stayed in a beach house so we had a full kitchen that we took advantage of. I was able to prepare foods I could eat and had plenty of snacks on hand without feeling deprived, including Arctic Zero ice cream, which is the BEST ice cream for Keto. I ate fully Keto all week and didn’t cheat until the last night when I had coffee-flavored rolled ice cream from a local ice cream parlor, and then on the way home, I had a scoop of key lime pie ice cream when we stopped to meet friends. As a result, I gained 1.4 lbs, but that’s IT! I lost it within 24 hours of getting home, and then some more. Putting my Carb Manager app into the weight maintenance mode on vacation was beneficial to me. I didn’t lose weight, which was my goal, but what I gained was so minimal and I’m certain it was more from my period starting at the end of the trip than what I ate. Especially with how quickly it fell right off of me. I came home feeling good and like I had accomplished something big. As soon as we got back, I put the app back into weight loss mode and started up again!
I’m starting month #3 of straight Keto now and I’m excited to see if I reach my goal weight. I only need to lose 5 pounds to reach my secondary goal, and I’ll be so happy if I can just get there and stay there… but I have 10 pounds to lose before reaching my primary goal. That will be a total of 24 pounds lost on Keto, when I get there. Of course, if I get pregnant before then, I won’t be mad…
I’ll check in again on July 16!
Until next time…
