Today marks exactly one month since I’ve started Keto and I wanted to give an update on how it’s been going, what I’ve learned, and my plan for the next month.
So far I’ve lost 9.6 lbs and my clothes that were too tight are fitting so much better. I wish I had taken measurements because you often see more results in inches lost than pounds shed, but based on how my clothes fit, I’m extremely excited. In my first post about starting Keto (you can read that here) I mentioned that my goal was to not have to go up in size and to be able to wear the same shorts that fit me at Disney last October to the beach. Well, they DO FIT! And not only do they fit, but they fit comfortably. I do need at least one new pair of athletic shorts because one got a hole in the fabric (that’s what I get for being cheap – they only lasted a few months of minor wear), but I don’t have to go up a size and that was my true goal.
How I Feel
I feel really good on Keto. I was very nervous about lowering my blood sugar because I have run hypoglycemic in the past, which is the opposite of most women with PCOS. But I feel like my system is running the way it should. I truly do.
What I’ve Learned
Keto truly is all about what I’m willing to put into it. It’s also VERY easy to get kicked out of gear. I ate some black beans one night that were mixed into a taco type bowl and they messed me up. I woke up the next morning 1 lb heavier and very bloated. I had gone over by too much in protein and carbs because of those black beans. I was able to shed that pound quickly, but it reminded me how important it is to be on point with Keto when I have goals to reach, no matter how much someone tries to tell me “it’s just a little bit”… every carb counts.
My Plan for the Next Month
We leave for the beach in 2.5 weeks, and I plan to continue Keto until then. I’m going to be honest and say that while I do plan to be primarily Keto on my vacation, I’m not making any promises to not have minor cheats. What good is a vacation if I can’t eat sour gummy candy and white cheddar popcorn? I mean, come on. I’ll be reasonable, but I am not going to struggle with food on vacation. I’ll make good choices when it comes to my meals and will portion out my cheat snacks. I do plan to drink Keto Rise while on the trip to keep some ketones in my system, but I’m not using it as a bandaid, so let me be clear on that. Exogenous ketones are not an excuse to eat terribly.
As soon as I get home, I’m going to hit Keto hard again and be super strict. Again. Because not only do I have weight loss goals in general, but I have a beautiful dress that I want to get taken in for my sister-in-law’s wedding on July 7, and I want to feel my best for her special day.
I’ll report back in another month how much weight month two made me drop, and how much I will have lost total. 🙂
