I don’t normally post on Saturdays, but THIS I just had to!!!
I’m sooo excited to share with you all a guest post I did for Babble.com on my experience with Zoey begging for a sibling, and how infertility still hurts, even in motherhood. Please take a peek and feel free to comment over there. I’m so excited for this opportunity!
My daughter Zoey is rapidly approaching her 5th birthday, which means she’s at that stage when she asks a lot of questions. No, really … a lot of questions.
The line of questioning changes direction as quickly as the crayon strokes across her paper, but one thing has been consistent for the last three years: she wants a sibling. More specifically, she wants a sister.

When Your Child is Begging for a Sibling You Can’t Give

This is so neat!!!
Thank you! I’m so excited!
I also could not conceive after having my son. My son is now a wonderful young man at 15. I dealt with sadness for some time after the realization that I would not have more children. The sadness does lessen dramatically over time. My husband and I have been able to place my child in a wonderful private school that we could not have afforded had we had more children. My son is a very good violin player and athlete. My husband and I are able to attend all of his music performances and sporting events unlike many of our friends who have to ‘divide and conquer’. He is growing up to be a very sweet, considerate, and sensitive person who has many close friends. He is not selfish and has had no difficulty with inter-personal relationships as a result of being a single. My point is that there are positives aspects to having one child and I often feel that I appreciate him more than most people appreciate their children. Do not give up hope on having more children, but remember that a ‘small’ family is still a family, and that can be amazing too in different ways!!
Hi Sandra! Thank you for reading and for sharing! It means a lot. 🙂
I forgot to comment before but I just wanted to say again that I am so proud of you and this is so neat!!
