Our 2014 vegetable garden is officially complete (photos to come later) and I am so excited!! I still may pick up a couple more herbs since I have two empty flower pots begging for friends, but that will come a little later. I’m also toying around with the idea of doing a sweet potato barrel or red potatoes in a container… any of you done that before? Am I too late in the season to start this?
Last weekend we only got the peppers planted in buckets and the herbs in their pots. This weekend we got the tomatoes and zucchini planted in the ground. I keep going out to check on everything and make sure the dog hasn’t dug any of it up. So far so good, she seems to completely avoid it all, which is fine with me. We should be able to start harvesting mid-July, which makes me really happy! I absolutely cannot wait! The herbs are growing like crazy already so I should be able to start using those right away. I’m letting the amethyst basil get a little bigger before using it, but the spearmint is already getting huge. How delicious that will be in some ice water this summer. Yum! I have a bunch of recipes for homemade popsicles saved on a Spring/Summer board on Pinterest (surprised?) and I can’t wait to use some of that mint and spearmint in some frozen treats and lemonade.
Now that my garden is complete, I keep thinking about what I want to grow next. If I want a fall garden, I need to start thinking and planning now.
Are you growing anything this year?
