With this being Zoey’s birth month, pretty much everything lately has revolved around her party plans and has kept me pretty busy. Easter is next, which just gives me something else fun to plan for! All that to say, this post is specifically about some of my favorite things for HER! I have just one item to speak for myself and I’ll put it last. All of these items just happen to be for skin care, so if you’re a mom or expecting mom, this might come in handy for you. As usual, I’ll link the posts for January & February at the bottom of this post. So, without further ado, here are my March favorites for Zoey (and 1 for me)!
When Zoey turned 3, I assumed she was ready for “big kid” shampoo, so I started buying her non-baby ‘poos, some of which were organic and more expensive, some were just from Dollar Tree. I tried a few different brands before realizing that every single one of the shampoos targeted for toddlers were absolute crap. Not only did they dry her hair out and make me have to buy extra conditioner AND leave-in detangler, but they totally took away the youthful bounce her curly locks once had and made her mane frizzy. I was fed up so I decided to go back to Johnson’s baby shampoo when I found this extra conditioning shampoo targeted for her age. I decided to try it and WOW. I cannot believe it took me that long and that many tries to find this shampoo. It. Is. Awesome. Her hair is super soft, doesn’t require extra conditioner OR leave-in detangler. She can get out of the bath/shower and I can literally comb her hair with no problems what-so-ever. It’s a one-stop shampoo for her and honestly, her scalp is thanking me for it, too! I know there’s a bad rep out there for Johnson’s, but honestly people, the “organic” and “sulfate-free” shampoos were all garbage for her. Which brings me to my next favorite item for Zoey…
For those of you who don’t know, Zoey has eczema and the source hasn’t been identified yet. In other words, we haven’t put her through a scratch test yet, but it might be in her future. That said, we’ve tried it all when it comes to “eczema approved” body washes for her, from Bert’s Bees to Aveno to brands I cannot even remember. None of them were any different from one another when it came to her skin being scaly, itchy and dry. So when I decided to try the Johnson’s Extra Conditioning Shampoo, I decided to go back to Johnson’s body wash, too. Once again, Johnson’s delivered. Her skin has improved! I don’t know what is in this stuff – I’m sure a lot of chemicals – but whatever it is, it works for her better than all of the body washes you would assume would be better for eczema skin. Her skin isn’t 100% yet, but compared to the other body washes we’ve tried, this one has been by far the best and she’ll be staying on it for a long time.
This lotion is approved for babies as young as 6 months old. For us, it does exactly what it stays it does – stops the itching! This has been really wonderful and hydrating for Zoey’s skin. Zoey scratches herself to the point where she has little scabs all over her poor little body. Her problem areas seem to be her sides, elbow pits (whatever they’re called, haha), and lower back. We try to keep her nails clipped but the kid is clearly getting enough vitamins because they are completely grown back out within days. We cover her in this lotion as soon as she steps out of the bath and her thirsty skin soaks it up. We have tried Aveno, Bert’s Bees, Eucerine, Aquafor, you name it… some of them seem to just sit on the surface of her skin and it takes a great deal of effort to rub them in. Others were just too greasy and gross. This one seems to be just right for her. Paired with her new body wash – they’re like magic. One thing some of you may notice is that every mom swears she found the answer to eczema for their kid’s skin and that everyone else should try it because they will have success. I’m not going to claim that at all – every kid is so different, their skin is different, their allergies are different, their source of eczema is different. This just works beautifully for us!
Okay, so, I am not using this tummy butter the way you’re all probably thinking I am. I bought this when I was pregnant with Zoey (before I had to live with the NST on my tummy for 24 hours/day – literally) thinking it would help with stretch marks. It didn’t, obviously, mainly because the NST gel was on me permanently toward the end of my pregnancy. There was no saving my skin at that point and the marks kicked into full gear. I held onto this tummy butter thinking maybe I’d use it for another purpose and surprisingly, I found it! Ladies, use this on your FEET! Don’t laugh, I am dead serious (no pun intended). All that dry, cracked, dead skin on your heels from the bite of winter will completely disappear with this stuff. I started using it on my feet before going to bed at night and sometimes fresh out of the shower and my feet are completely healed. So soft and ready for summer! I do have a scrubber I use occasionally, but using this regularly has kept me from having to scrub much.
That’s it, friends! My favorite items for the month of March!
Is there anything new you tried this month and love? I’d like to hear about it!
