This is a new series I decided to do on my blog after realizing how much I loved watching them on YouTube. There are a few vloggers I watch regularly and I find that I actually look forward to their “favorites” videos, especially if they are monthly. It gives me insight into some products I may not realize were out there. Depending on the vlogger, I have found I can trust their taste and opinion on certain things. I thought this might be kind of fun to do at the end of each month! Not all products were purchased in January, but heavily used throughout the month. Some could be old stuff I forgot about and fell back in love with, some items are brand new. I will likely not only cover stuff I love, but stuff that Zoey and maybe even Glenn love. I’ll try to provide plenty of imagery and links to where you can get more info or buy some of these items if you’re interested. This might feel a little long but I hope you find it interesting! I’ll keep myself limited to just 3-5 items per month. If I notice a lack of interest in the view count for these entries, I’ll quit. 😉
On to January!
Maybeline ExpertWear Eyeshadow Quads, Natural Smokes, $5
Girls. Let me tell you. I love these little color pallets. I rely heavily on good eye mark-up for one reason alone: I have terrible PCOS skin. In my mind, if my eyes look fantastic, it will draw attention away from my hormonal breakouts around the lower part of my face and chin. I love these color pallets because each color is labeled according to where you need to apply them on your eye! It takes out all the guess work and the colors are perfectly paired, go on smoothly and seriously last all day long. The pallet I have right now and use every day is called Natural Smokes. I bought it at Walmart for under $5. I recommend this if you enjoy having good eye make-up, but have no idea what to do with it. I see all these little tutorials on pinterest and I always think, “Hey, that looks cool”, but when it comes to the application, I look like a raccoon afterward. Every. Single. Time.
Baltic Amber Bracelet, Lemon Baroque, $10
I actually got this through a co-op group, but you can order directly through True Baltic Amber or Hazelaid (a lot more info about baltic amber on Hazelaid’s website). You can also find them on Etsy if you want to support small business, but you want to make sure it’s the real deal before purchasing. Find out where their beads come from. Lithuania? Perfect! Let me kind of explain how this works: baltic amber dates back millions of years. People have used it for centuries for its healing properties. I know that sounds all new age and weird, but let me explain! Baltic amber contains an oil within it called succinic acid. Think of it as nature’s version of Ibuprofen. Your natural body heat warms the amber, causing it to release this oil into your skin. Please note that your skin does not feel oily from wearing it! Not in the least bit. The oils reduce inflammation and provide pain relief. The lighter color the amber, the higher level of succinic acid. For best results, you’re supposed to wear it close to the source of pain. This is why you see so many natural momma’s putting what is known as “amber teething necklaces” on their babies (and you’ll see Zoey wearing it for her ears). Supposedly this works like a charm for teething. Why do I wear it? I get chronic headaches. I probably need a necklace for that, but I decided to start with a simple bracelet. Let me tell you my experience: I only take it off to sleep and shower. I immediately put it back on after the shower. One day since having it, I forgot it. Guess who had a headache all day? Coincidence? I don’t know. Since I’ve been consistently wearing it again, I’ve been fine. Right now, I am in love with this bracelet. I think it’s beautiful, even if it’s not really healing. I guess when I have another baby, I’ll find out the truth on how it works for teething!
Dress, Scarf & Tights from Target, >$50
I couldn’t find individual links to all of these items on Target’s website (I’m not a huge fan of how their site is organized) so I’m sorry about that, but hopefully if you like any of them, you can find them in your local store! I bought all of this with some Christmas money, in addition to a couple more tops and a purse. The dress? So stinking comfortable, I wish it came in more colors. I love the navy blue and the very subtle pattern on it. The scarf? I had to have it. It’s my favorite tone of green and will transition into springtime very nicely. It also goes along with several other outfits I already own. I kept walking past it and noticed it just kept catching my eye so I knew I needed to get it. The tights? This is my first pair of colored tights and I am in love with the mustard yellow tone and the soft stripes. I can pair them with several skirts and tops I already own. I wear brown boots and a brown cardigan with this ensemble. Perfect for the office or church and yet extremely comfortable. In the spring, I can pair the dress with some nude pumps and nix the tights. I love versatile outfits!
Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk Shampoo and Conditioner, $8 each
Oh. My. Gosh. Ladies, this shampoo and conditioner combo smells (and feels) amazing. It makes me want to go back to Belize, sit by the crystal blue water and sip on fresh papaya and pineapple juice. I went out on a limb and decided to try this because I just needed something different and really wanted something that smelled amazing, too. The conditioner is really thick and nourishing, which is exactly what my long locks needed. We’ll see if I feel the same way at the end of the bottles, but for January, this stuff became my BFF in the shower. It very well could partially be because once Christmas is over, I’m so ready for flip flops and yet it won’t be good weather for them until at least April. March if we’re in for a hot summer. The velvety coconut scent just takes me away, friends. I love it. I bought mine at the Kroger grocery store because they had the bottles that have 50% more in them for the $8 price, but I have also seen this at Walmart in smaller bottles for $6.
That’s it for January!! I hope this wasn’t too boring. 😉 If you have any questions about these items, just leave a comment!
